Yes lah, it's the choir olympics place.

I bought a pretty notebook for me to chronicle every little detail of the trip, because I know what precious memories they will be for me. I have already pasted some basic korean phrases on a postcard, and the conference timetable at the back of my notebook.. all for easy reference! Hohoho!

Although I have developed some very very very nasty blisters from a long story too exhausting to say here (let's just say some Crocs bit my heels. =x), I am armed with antiseptic cream and plasters. Furthermore, there's always my trusty Birks that come to the rescue when I face blister crises.

I need to hide dragoon under something so that he doesn't collect dust over the week. I need to teach my brother how to take care of all my cacti while I am away. Most of all, I need to prepare my heart and mind for what God will be teaching and telling me at the conference. He's the highlight of my trip. =)

Lord, I'm ready for an exciting and life-transforming experience. =)

Temp No More

today was my last day being a Temp at Tempest. unfortunately it hadn't gone as well as i had hoped. i was looking forward to the dry curry chicken rice from the zhi char store since yesterday, and a grouchy lady messed up my order, and looked too ignorant to ever hear my clarification. i couldn't be bothered to go downstairs again to demand the right order.

i guess jiang chong zhu rou fan will forever be stigmatized in my life.

so what will i miss about tempest? well, chatting with miss lim of course. and the yong tau foo downstairs. and the curry rice i didn't get to eat. and the pianoooo!! and reading foxtrot and dilbert on the comfortable armchair. and the friendly swee lee staff.

through my stay there i have gotten alarmingly competent at Spider Solitaire (two suites) and Freecell, which i enjoy immensely. i also mastered two beautiful piano pieces.

it had been a rather lonely affair though.. working there.. but i enjoy solitude once in awhile. i'm sure i'll pop by a few more times in the near future..

and i will not give up until i get to eat my dry curry rice.

Sing unto the Lord

Huijun's blog entry on her experiences in Bandung really warms my heart. it does because she sees the passion the locals have in singing, and their purpose in singing, specifically in a choir.

with indonesia being a predominantly Muslim country, a large proportion of the Bandung population happen to be Christians. their love for praising the Lord in song is such a shining testimony of their faith and love for Him. to the less sensitive eye, they may only appear as an exuberant group of singers, but i know the reason of their passion. their joy comes from their Maker, who gave them the voices to sing praises to His name - praises that no one else on earth deserve.

i have yet to have a chance to convey to my church choir just now marvellous an instrument the human body is. i am convinced that when God made us, He installed in some of us a super audio system that is able to make beautiful sounds with the vocal chords. singing - the only instrument that is capable of combining words and tune in one. truly, praising the One who loves us most and sharing His love with others is the highest function and purpose that our voices were meant for putting use to.

Psalm 98

1 Sing to the LORD a new song,
for he has done marvelous things;
his right hand and his holy arm
have worked salvation for him.

2 The LORD has made his salvation known

and revealed his righteousness to the nations.

3 He has remembered his love
and his faithfulness to the house of Israel;
all the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.

4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth,

burst into jubilant song with music; 5 make music to the LORD with the harp,
with the harp and the sound of singing,

6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn—

shout for joy before the LORD, the King.

7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it,
the world, and all who live in it.

8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
Let the mountains sing together for joy; 9 let them sing before the LORD,
for he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness
and the peoples with equity.

Cry Me a Bucket

you know when i was in primary 4, i probably felt my first sting of betrayal. a classmate whom i had a long-time feud with did something wrong, and told our teacher that i was the culprit.

there, under staircase 3, where i just finished prefect duty (and where my teacher often makes us stay back to write lines), i started crying, unable to articulate my innocence of the matter.

"cry! cry some more! i make you fill up a bucket with all your tears!" she scolded.

don't worry. she's a nice and dedicated teacher who actually often praised me for my well written compos, and that friend and i have since been on amiable terms. the whole point of this story.........................

.... is that i just might be able to live up to her threat.

my aunt lent me this.

can i be the one to make its title a reality? 500ml for Be With You, and 500ml for this.

and i'm curious. how much more is the volume if i add my mucus? (it rhymes.)

Descant

Will your anchor hold
In the storms of life?
When the clouds unfold
Their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift
And the cables strain
Will your anchor drift,
Or firm remain?

We have an anchor
That keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure
While the billows roll
Fastened to the Rock
Which cannot move
Grounded firm and deep
In the Saviour's love
