My New Year?
This year's CNY proved unprecendented and most unusual. In just 4 short days the following things happened:
- I boarded the Nokia Music Bus on CNY eve. I tell you its zhng-ed until cannot zhng. Advertising has just pushed another frontier. Talk about 'spoil market'. But i enjoyed the ride immensely.
- Squeeeeeezed past through crazy crowds at Chinatown on new year's eve. Grabbed taiwanese jelly and muah chees for $5 a bag at the clearance.
- Got swung left right center on the Rainbow ride at Escape Theme Park. When we were at the top we could see half of Pasir Ris. It's ok i didn't puke.
- Lou hei at the family chalet and had one of my chopsticks 'sucked' into the vortex of flying food shreds. It was the funniest thing. You put your hand in with two chopsticks and come out with one..
- Visited my dad's side of the family today when one of the guests walked right into the glass door pane, knocked his head on it and SHATTERED the whole piece of glass. I'll let the picture do the talking when i get it from cousin viola. And thankfully the guy wasn't hurt, but very Hollywood.
- Recieved a 'special' fat ang bao from a relative. I know many people will go shopping with their ang bao money but i shall channel mine to the Jean-Goes-On-Exchange Fund.
Phew. what a CNY. hope you had a good one!

Oink

I love CNY celebrations. Its a great chance to get together with loved ones and hang out with the cousins! Every New Year we'd either take a family trip or stay at a chalet for a few days just playing mahjong and having BBQ sessions. (all the ingredients are put in Tupperware of course, of which i am now a dealer in for unfortunate reasons.)
Here's wishing everyong a very blessed Chinese New Year! I wish you receive blessings and grace many many in your house.

Dear Japanese People

You must not overload me with cuteness like this again. My poor heart cannot take it.

Shepherd of my Soul

John 10:1:21
1 "I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber.
2 The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep.
3 The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.
5 But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger's voice."
6 Jesus used this figure of speech, but they did not understand what he was telling them.
7 Therefore Jesus said again, "I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.
8 All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them.
9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture.
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
11 "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.
12 The hired hand is not the shepherd who owns the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it.
13 The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
14 "I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—
15 just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
17 The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again.
18 No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father."
19 At these words the Jews were again divided.
20 Many of them said, "He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?"
21 But others said, "These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?"

Fish Out of Water

Picture taken from Cuteoverload.
With every Econs module i take i am increasingly convinced that i am in the wrong course (i'm clearing my 5th out of 8). It is a serious check on motivation, and the thought of giving up surfaces as often as SMU students get drunk.
I guess coming to the end of year two now.. it really really isn't a good time to throw in the towel.. but as i saw my classmates scribbling furiously as if they know what's going on, something that resembled dread+panic+disdain+depression+disbelief+helplessness washed over me. Mid-term tests are coming in a week, and i've never been so sure that i would do badly, even if i try my best. it's not about pessimism; it's about referring to past experiences.
i proceeded to scribble "Philippians 4:13" on my International Econs notes. "I can do all things through Christ who strenthens me". yes.... that was a good time for Philippians 4:13 indeed. it is now my only source of hope lest i plunge into extreme fatalism. i do want to do something about my life....... just not here.
now put me back in the water before i burst!

Hamster
i remember how i used to laugh at the row of "hamsters" running on the treadmills of planet fitness across the road while walking to cineleisure.. i guess i have two reasons i don't do that anymore..
first of all, i no longer patronise cineleisure because i simply cannot stand the crowd there, and secondly, i'm beginning to appreciate the benefits of being a "hamster" myself, jogging on the treadmill in my school gym.
of course it doesn't help that there's local tv on the rather large screen in front of you.. watching someone called Bill whipping up tasty-looking parmesean mashed potatoes - a cruel reminder of what you're giving up in the name of health.
it can get quite giddy running with your head bent down, with the screening bobbing up and down because of your jogging.. i made a small reminder to bring along my mp3 player in the future to run along to fast music instead.
what can i say? i love SMU gym for its treadmills with tv, bikes with tv, step machines with tv.... and that torso-training machine that really works the abs. most of all showering at the gym toilet is a most pleasant experience.
i wish i could find more time to be a hamster.
